KPK Prosecutors: Director-General of Customs Received a Total of Rp61 Billion in Bribes from Blueray Cargo Boss

Prosecutors from the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) have revealed that Djaka Budi Utama, the Director-General of Customs, received a total of six envelopes believed to contain bribes from Blueray Cargo’s boss, John Field. Prosecutor M Takdir said one envelope coded ‘1’ handed over by John Field contained S$213,600. According to Takdir, the six cash handovers occurred from August 2025 to January 2026. ‘What we showed earlier relates to a single receipt; the table displayed here shows one month, not six,’ he told reporters after the hearing on Wednesday, 20 May. Nevertheless, Takdir said the bribe sums paid to customs officials varied from month to month. ‘We emphasise that for the six months the amount in our indictment is six times the monthly figure,’ he added, noting that the total would be Rp61 billion when aggregated.

Previously, the Director-General of Customs, Djaka Budi Utama, was reported to have received bribes amounting to S$213,600 in one month as part of the bribery and facilitation scheme allegedly involving Blueray Cargo’s John Field. This was stated by Prosecutor Orlando Hamonangan, head of Intelligence for Customs Investigation and Enforcement at the Directorate-General of Customs, during a court session at PN Tipikor on Wednesday, 20 May. Orlando initially said that in August 2025, John Field and a woman named Sri Pangastuti or Tuti visited him at the office, bringing several envelopes labelled codes 1 to 3. However, Orlando claimed he did not know the identity of the recipient of envelope code 1. He only said he knew that code 2 referred to Rizal and code 3 to Sisprian Subiaksono.

‘Number two and number three I know, but number one I do not,’ he said. Thereafter, the prosecutors presented sampling data of the envelopes received by various customs officials. The table included codes 1–4 associated with individuals including DIR, BR, SIS, HEN, BY and possibly OC. ‘Your Honour, we are showing the photos linked to the codes that Mr Ocoy understands as the recipients of those envelopes,’ said the prosecutor. The prosecutors confirmed that codes ‘2’ and ‘3’ belonged to Rizal and Sisprian, respectively. For envelope code ‘1’, the recipient was Djaka Budi Utama, the Director-General of Customs. They also stated that in August the total money received by Djaka amounted to S$213,600. ‘Your Honour, we emphasise that the envelope 2-1 refers to the Director-General of Customs, amounting to S$213,600,’ the prosecutor added. ‘That is our assertion as we possess the evidence.’

Meanwhile, Budi Prasetiyo, head of Public Relations and Public Outreach at the Directorate General of Customs, said they respect the legal process and the ongoing court proceedings, declining to comment on the substantive matters and upholding the presumption of innocence.
