KPK Prosecutor Reminds Witness Not to 'Forget' Coded Envelopes in Customs Bribery Case

A KPK prosecutor has asked a witness not to feign amnesia regarding coded envelopes used to deliver bribes to customs and excise officials. The request was made during a trial at the Jakarta Central Corruption Court on Tuesday (14/7/2026), where Yohanes Setiawan, a personal assistant to PT Blueray Cargo owner John Field, was testifying.

The prosecutor initially questioned the technical process of providing money from John Field to officials at the Directorate General of Customs and Excise to expedite the shipment of goods for PT Blueray Cargo. Yohanes explained that the money was prepared in cash, placed in envelopes, and given a code according to a note.

Yohanes stated that the envelopes were collected in a goodie bag and handed over to John Field. He admitted to seeing the codes written on the envelopes because he had been asked to carry them on several occasions. When the prosecutor presented a photograph of an envelope sourced from Yohanes’s WhatsApp chat, he reminded the witness not to claim amnesia and to clearly state the code written on it.

The three defendants in this case are Rizal, the Director of Enforcement and Investigation at Customs and Excise; Sisprian Subiaksono, the Head of the Intelligence Sub-Directorate; and Orlando Hamonangan, the Head of Customs Intelligence Section I. They have been charged with accepting bribes and gratuities totalling Rp 78.8 billion. The prosecution alleges the defendants received Rp 61.7 billion in cash and entertainment facilities worth Rp 1.8 billion from John Field and other Blueray Cargo executives. They are also accused of receiving gratuities worth Rp 15.2 billion from various importers and cigarette entrepreneurs.
