KPK Proposes Rp774 Billion Budget Increase, Here is the Reason
The Chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), Setyo Budiyanto, has proposed a budget increase of Rp774 billion to strengthen prevention, enforcement, and education efforts.
Setyo stated that the KPK has been allocated a budget ceiling of Rp1.447 trillion for 2027, but this amount is deemed insufficient. The actual budget required by the KPK is estimated to be around Rp2.222 trillion. Consequently, when calculating the needs of the anti-corruption agency, the deficit stands at approximately Rp774 billion.
“Regarding the 2027 budget ceiling, the value is Rp1.447 trillion. From there, it was calculated that there is a shortage because the real requirement is actually Rp2.222 trillion. The deficit, rounded, is Rp774 billion,” said Setyo, as quoted on Thursday, 3 September 2026.
He ensured that the entire budget would be utilised for corruption eradication, ranging from enforcement and prevention to management, information, and data systems.
“This shortage is part of the funding for all activities carried out to conduct corruption eradication, including enforcement, prevention, education, coordination, supervision, as well as management support, information, and data,” he explained.
Setyo also revealed that the proposed increase has undergone a review process as an effort to achieve the KPK’s targets.
“We are being realistic; we have conducted discussions and assessments to determine that figure as maximally as possible, certainly in line with the pre-determined targets,” he concluded.
Previously, the KPK proposed a budget increase of Rp774.31 billion for the 2027 fiscal year. This budget request was presented by KPK Chairman Setyo Budiyanto during a working meeting with Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI).
In his report, Setyo noted that the KPK’s 2027 budget ceiling has undergone a reduction of Rp134 billion, or approximately 8.4 per cent, compared to 2026.
He mentioned that even in 2026, under current budget conditions, the KPK has already faced several obstacles in executing its duties and achieving outputs.
“We report that with the current budget conditions in 2026, the KPK has experienced several hurdles in the implementation of tasks and the achievement of outputs, including sub-optimal performance in several prevention and anti-corruption monitoring activities, coordination and supervision of case handling, as well as the functions of the KPK Supervisory Board being hindered by budget constraints,” he said.
Therefore, the request for a budget increase for 2027 from the established ceiling is intended to strengthen corruption eradication and achieve the targeted objectives.
