KPK Proposes Limiting Party Leaders to Two Terms, NasDem: It's Not That Simple
NasDem Secretary-General Hermawi Taslim has responded to the KPK’s proposal regarding the limitation of the leadership term for party chairmen to two periods. Hermawi stated that political party leadership cannot be simplified merely by restricting periods.
“The KPK’s recommendation that the tenure of a party chairman should ideally be two periods is, in my view, a valuable input for all of us, including the parties,” Hermawi told reporters on Thursday (23/4/2026).
“However, party leadership matters are certainly not as straightforward as examined by the KPK,” he added.
According to him, there are many aspects that lead to a figure being elected as chairman. Additionally, there are numerous considerations for why a figure is retained as chairman by the party.
“There are multiple aspects that determine why someone is elected as chairman. There are many considerations and variations as to why a figure is still retained by a party,” he said.
Furthermore, Hermawi touched on cadre development within NasDem’s internal structure. He claimed that his party is among the forefront in cadre nurturing.
“Perhaps NasDem is one of the leading parties because from the beginning it has had the Academy of National Defence (ABN), which serves as the central hub for tiered cadre development for the NasDem Party,” he explained.
“NasDem conducts tiered cadre development every year from the central level to the district level, with some concentrated at the ABN, meaning every year all provinces take turns attending cadre training in Jakarta,” he added.
Previously, the KPK conducted a study on political party governance to prevent corruption. One of them is the KPK’s proposal for a limitation on the leadership tenure of party chairmen to two periods.
This study was carried out by the KPK in 2025 through the Monitoring Directorate. The KPK identified four points that need improvement in Indonesia’s political party system and provided 16 recommendations.
“To ensure the implementation of cadre development, a regulation is needed to limit the leadership of the party chairman to a maximum of two terms of office,” states one of the recommendations from the KPK study, quoted by detikcom on Thursday (23/4).
