The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has seized 2.5 kilograms of gold and cash in various denominations totalling billions of rupiah in connection with an alleged extortion case involving Sukoharjo Regent Etik Suryani (ETS) and her subordinates. The KPK is continuing to investigate the origin of the gold and money.

KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo stated that the commission will also investigate whether there is a separation of assets between Etik and her husband, Wardoyo, who served as regent during the previous term. Budi said the KPK is probing the source and timing of the acquisition of the gold and cash.

“We will analyse every statement from the suspects or witnesses, whether it belongs to Regent ETS or her husband, whether there is a separation of assets in the calculation or acknowledgement of property owned by this husband and wife, including its acquisition, whether it was obtained during the period when Mrs ETS served as Regent or during the period when her husband served as Regent,” Budi Prasetyo told reporters on Monday (13/7/2026).

Budi said every statement regarding the origin of the gold and money will be analysed by investigators. He confirmed the investigation is ongoing. “This will certainly be material analysed by investigators, the clustering of these pieces of evidence,” he said.

Previously, the KPK named Sukoharjo Regent Etik Suryani as a suspect in an extortion case within the Sukoharjo Regency Government. The KPK also named two of Etik’s subordinates as suspects. “The KPK has elevated the alleged corruption case related to extortion in the Sukoharjo Regency Government to the investigation stage and named three individuals as suspects,” said Deputy for Enforcement and Execution Asep Guntur Rahayu during a press conference on Saturday (11/7).

The three individuals named as suspects by the KPK are: 1. Sukoharjo Regent Etik Suryani; 2. Head of the Sukoharjo Regency Financial and Asset Management Agency (BPKAD), Richard Tri Handoko; 3. Head of General Affairs of the Sukoharjo Regency Regional Secretariat, Tri Mulyo.

Asep alleged that Etik Suryani received wage levies within the Sukoharjo BPKAD. Asep said Etik instructed Richard to collect approximately 40 per cent of the incentives received by several BPKAD employees. “ETS’s request allegedly continues the ‘tradition’ of the previous regent, who is also ETS’s husband, with the coded instructions: ‘tambahan upah pungut kae ono tho?’ (is there that additional levy wage?); ‘kowe mrene kan ora bayar’ (you come here without paying); ‘padakno karo Bapak’ (make it the same as with Bapak). The implication is that the amount of money collected should match the levies paid during the previous regent’s term,” Asep revealed.
