KPK Probes Alleged Extortion by Its Staff Against Parties Other Than Pemalang Regent
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is investigating extortion practices carried out by its staff member, Setya Budi Dias, against parties other than Pemalang Regent Anom Widiyantoro. “The KPK will continue to investigate and trace whether this was the first time the act was committed or if there were previous acts,” said KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo to reporters on Thursday, 6 August 2026. Budi explained that investigators will continue to deepen the probe into the alleged extortion. The investigation aims to ensnare other parties suspected of being involved in the case. “Of course, the KPK does not close its investigation process here; we will continue to trace it,” he said. “The KPK is certainly open if later there is evidence indicating that, including if there are other parties suspected of having a crucial role,” he continued. Setya is a suspect in the alleged extortion of Pemalang Regent Anom Widiyantoro. The extortion was carried out together with his father, Lilik Budi Suprisnto, who is also a suspect in the same case. The KPK revealed that the case began with extortion committed by the Regent together with his confidant, Mohamad Haris alias Gus Haris. The extortion targeted several regional apparatus officials and private parties to manage the resolution of a problem at the KPK. “AWI, through GHA, allegedly requested money from several regional apparatus officials and private partners for his personal needs. GHA collected money totalling IDR 1.98 billion,” said Acting Director of Investigations Ahmad Taufik Husein during a press conference on Thursday, 30 July 2026. Taufik stated that Gus Haris met his brother-in-law Harun to be introduced to Lilik Budi Suprisnto, the father of KPK administrative staff member Setya Budi Dias. Subsequently, Anom, Gus Haris, and Lilik held three meetings at a restaurant in the Magelang and Semarang areas. During the meeting, Lilik requested IDR 2 billion for case management. “After AWI and GHA were convinced that LBS could manage the case, an agreement was reached between AWI and GHA with LBS to prepare the money so that the case dragging the Pemalang Regent’s name could be resolved,” Taufik explained.
