The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has shifted the detention of former Minister of Religious Affairs (Menag), who is also a suspect in the 2023-2024 Hajj quota corruption case, Yaqut Cholil Qoumas (YCQ), to house arrest. The KPK stated that this shift is only temporary.

“It is temporary,” said KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo when contacted on Sunday (22/3/2026).

Budi could not yet confirm how long Yaqut would remain under house arrest. He said that the agency would provide updates on developments later.

“For certainty on how long, it will be updated again later,” he stated.

Previously, Budi announced that Yaqut had been under house arrest since Thursday (19/3) the previous week. Since then, Yaqut has not been at the KPK detention centre.

“Correct, the investigators have shifted the type of detention for suspect Mr YCQ, from detention at the KPK Detention Centre to house arrest, since Thursday (19/3) night last,” said KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo to reporters on Saturday (21/3/2026).

Budi revealed that Yaqut’s family had submitted a request for the shift. The KPK then approved it.

“This shift is based on a request from the family on 17 March 2026. Following the request, it was reviewed and approved with considerations in accordance with Article 108 paragraphs (1) and (11) of Law Number 20 of 2025 on the Criminal Procedure Code,” he said.

The KPK stated that supervision would continue to be carried out on Yaqut during his house arrest. Budi assured that the detention shift process complies with regulations and procedures.

“During the implementation of this detention shift, the KPK continues to carry out close supervision and security for the suspect,” he said.

“We assure that the temporary detention shift process complies with the provisions and investigation and detention procedures for a suspect,” he added.

For information, Yaqut was named a suspect at the beginning of January 2026. Yaqut had challenged his suspect status from the KPK to the court.

However, Yaqut’s pre-trial lawsuit was rejected by the judge. The KPK then detained Yaqut on Thursday (12/3).
