KPK: Newly Appointed State Officials Must Submit Wealth Reports Within Two Months
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is urging newly appointed state officials to immediately report their wealth (LHKPN).
“The KPK urges officials newly appointed in the cabinet reshuffle to promptly fulfil their obligation to submit the Report on State Officials’ Wealth (LHKPN) in accordance with applicable regulations,” stated KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo when confirmed via written message on Monday (5/10).
Budi explained that LHKPN reporting is not merely an administrative obligation, but is one of the essential instruments in corruption prevention efforts. Compliance in LHKPN reporting, he clarified, serves as a manifestation of commitment to transparency regarding a state official’s wealth, while providing a space for the public to participate in oversight.
The obligation to submit LHKPN applies not only periodically during an official’s term but also upon initial appointment as a State Official, upon reappointment after a term ends, and upon the conclusion of a term or retirement.
“Based on the latest regulations, for these conditions, the LHKPN must be submitted no later than two months from the date of appointment or the end of the term,” said Budi.
The KPK views compliance in submitting LHKPN as part of a public official’s commitment to integrity. The more transparent a state official is regarding their wealth, the stronger the space for the public to assist in monitoring and ensuring that state administration operates transparently and accountably.
Budi added that the LHKPN serves both preventive and supervisory functions. The submitted wealth data can serve as an instrument to assess the fairness of changes in wealth while an individual holds a public mandate.
“Therefore, what is required is not just the compliance to report, but also ensuring that the report is submitted correctly, completely, and in accordance with the actual conditions,” he said.
Furthermore, Budi stated that wealth reporting is not just about fulfilling an obligation to the KPK, but is a form of moral accountability and transparency to the public that has entrusted them with their mandate. The compliance of a public official in LHKPN reporting is also regarded as an effort to increase public trust in the government.
“The KPK also invites the community to utilise the openness of LHKPN information as part of public participation in guarding the integrity of state officials. LHKPN data can be monitored by the public through the official KPK e-LHKPN channel,” Budi added.
President of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto recently reshuffled the cabinet and inaugurated several high-ranking officials on Thursday (1/10). This cabinet reshuffle is one of the most extensive to date, involving at least three coordinating ministers and one deputy coordinating minister, two ministers and four deputy ministers, as well as heads and deputy heads of agencies or institutions, and the Presidential Advisory Council (Wantimpres).
