KPK Nets 1,880 Corruption Suspects After 22 Years
Deputy for Enforcement and Execution of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Asep Guntur Rahayu disclosed this at a media gathering in the Anyer area of Serang Regency, Banten, on Wednesday (20 May 2026). He said that among the many cases handled, KPK has named 1,720 male suspects and 160 female suspects.
“From the 1,880 corruption cases handled by the KPK, 1,720 were perpetrated by men, while 160 were women,” Asep said.
Some time earlier, KPK Deputy Chairman Ibnu Basuki Widodo also spoke about corrupt actors disguising the proceeds of corruption to become Money Laundering (TPPU). The funds do not only go to family but also to mistresses.
Ibnu said this during the Socialisation on Strengthening Integrity and Anti-Corruption Practices, carried on the Purwokerto District Court’s YouTube channel on Sunday (19 Apr). The socialisation was held at the Purwokerto District Court, Banyumas Regency, Central Java.
Ibnu began by saying that the proceeds of corruption are closely related to TPPU. Investigators often find cases where the inquiry can be carried out in parallel.
“If there is corruption, usually TPPU will also emerge; it can appear together or afterwards; if together, the evidence is complete; if done separately, the evidence for TPPU or for the principal offence first, then the TPPU appears,” he said.
Ibnu revealed that TPPU is used by corrupt actors to disguise the proceeds of corruption. The illicit money, he said, is given to family, charitable donations here and there, as well as outings.
“After committing corruption, the perpetrator has given to everyone, including wives, children, family, for charity and worship, donations here and there, a trip, for savings; one wonders where the Rp 1 billion went,” he said.
“If you hide it under a floorboard, cockroaches might eat it; if you store it as savings, PPATK might detect it,” he added.
Here is where Ibnu said corrupt actors also launder their illicit proceeds through their mistresses. On average, he noted, 81% of male corrupt perpetrators do so.
“Then where do they tend to go, the perpetrators? Most of them are male, 81% of men; where to? To those pretty women over there, approaching young-looking women, saying ‘my dear, where are you studying?’ ‘Sir, you are still young,’ though in reality they are older. That is the story there, but it is true; hundreds of millions are funnelled to those women,” he stated.
