KPK Names West Lombok Regent and Two Others as Corruption Suspects

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has named West Lombok Regent Lalu Ahmad Zaini (LAZ), President Director of PT Air Minum Giri Menang (Perseroda) Sudirman (SUD), and Director of PT MSI, identified by the initials ALG, as suspects in an alleged corruption case. “Based on valid preliminary evidence and sufficient proof, the KPK has elevated this case to the investigation stage and named three individuals as suspects, namely LAZ as the Regent of West Lombok for the 2025-2030 period, SUD as the President Director of PT AMGM, and ALG as a private party or Director of PT MSI,” said Acting Director of KPK Investigations Achmad Taufik Husein at the KPK’s Red and White Building in Jakarta on Tuesday. Taufik explained that Lalu Ahmad, together with Sudirman, is suspected of involvement in a conflict of interest concerning the procurement of goods and services within the West Lombok Regency Government, West Nusa Tenggara. He stated that the two suspects are charged under Article 12 letter i of Law Number 31 of 1999 on the Eradication of Criminal Acts of Corruption, as amended by Law Number 20 of 2001. Meanwhile, the Director of PT MSI is suspected by the KPK of acting as the briber and is therefore charged under Article 605 or Article 606 paragraph (1) of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code in conjunction with Law Number 1 of 2026 concerning Criminal Adjustments. “The KPK has subsequently detained the suspects for an initial 20-day period, effective from 21 July to 9 August 2026,” Taufik said. According to him, the three suspects are being held at the KPK’s Red and White Building branch detention centre in Jakarta. During the sting operation, the KPK initially stated it had apprehended 19 individuals and brought seven to the KPK’s Red and White Building in Jakarta for further examination. The KPK later announced it had apprehended one more person for further examination in Jakarta. The eight individuals examined in Jakarta comprised Lalu Ahmad Zaini, President Director of PT Air Minum Giri Menang (Perseroda) Sudirman, Head of the West Lombok Public Works, Spatial Planning, Housing, and Settlement Areas Agency (PUPRPKP) Lalu Ratnawi, an aide to the West Lombok Regent, an aide and driver to the President Director of PT Air Minum Giri Menang, and two private sector individuals.
