KPK Names Several Suspects in Connection with BNPB Sting Operation
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) carried out a sting operation at the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) in connection with alleged corruption involving disaster contingency funds. The KPK has named several people as suspects.
“After the case was moved from the investigation stage to the formal inquiry stage at last night’s case review meeting, investigators named several people as suspects,” KPK spokesman Budi Prasetyo told reporters on Wednesday (14 October 2026).
Budi said those named as suspects would be detained at the KPK detention centre. He did not specify who had been named.
“The suspects will, of course, subsequently be detained. Those whose legal status remains that of witnesses may return,” he said.
The KPK has seized evidence in the form of cash and gold bullion. The cash seized totalled Rp1.4 billion.
BNPB says it respects KPK sting operation
BNPB said it respected the KPK’s sting operation involving the agency and urged that the presumption of innocence be upheld.
“BNPB fully respects the legal process and procedures currently being carried out by the KPK. BNPB upholds the presumption of innocence,” BNPB spokesman Berton Padjaitan told reporters on Tuesday (13 October).
Berton said BNPB would co-operate and provide information in connection with the operation handled by the KPK. The agency also pledged not to interfere in the case.
“BNPB is committed to co-operating and will provide the data and access to information required in accordance with the laws and regulations. BNPB will not interfere in any way with the investigation and inquiry being conducted by law enforcement authorities,” he said.
