KPK Names Muara Enim Regent Edison a Suspect in Education Department Procurement Case
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has officially named the Regent of Muara Enim, Edison, as a suspect in a procurement case involving the Muara Enim Regency Government’s Education and Culture Department. The designation follows a formal case review conducted by the anti-corruption agency.
“It is true, one of them is the Regent,” explained KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo to journalists at the KPK’s Merah Putih building in Kuningan, South Jakarta, on Tuesday (9/6/2026). In addition to Regent Edison, three other individuals have also been named as suspects. However, Budi has not yet provided specific details regarding the identities of the other suspects, noting only that the group includes both state officials and private sector representatives.
The KPK previously conducted a case review following a sting operation (OTT) that ensnared Edison. “Regarding the series of events involving the caught-in-the-act operation during a closed investigation in the South Sumatra region last night, a case exposure has been conducted,” said KPK spokesperson Buju Prasetyo. “Based on the sufficiency of the preliminary evidence obtained, it was decided that this case would proceed to the investigation stage, subsequently leading to the naming of the parties as suspects.”
A total of 10 individuals, including Edison, were detained during the operation, which began on Sunday (7/6) night. During the sting, the KPK also seized hundreds of millions of rupiah in cash. The operation is linked to allegations of bribery involving private parties.
