KPK Names Kuansing Regent and Secretary as Suspects After Sting Operation
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is continuing to question the Regent of Kuantan Singingi, Riau Province, Suhardiman Amby, and the Regional Secretary of Kuansing, Zulkarnaen. The examination follows their surrender after they initially evaded a sting operation on Tuesday. KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo stated on Wednesday that the request for information has now entered the investigation phase. The KPK has officially detained Suhardiman Amby, who was seen wearing an orange detainee vest upon leaving the examination room around 3:40 PM Western Indonesian Time. The KPK also detained the Regional Secretary of Kuansing, Zulkarnaen, and the President Director of PT MIC, Ardiles. Both were also seen wearing orange detainee vests. Before entering the detention vehicle, Suhardiman made a brief statement asking the public to uphold the principle of presumption of innocence. The KPK had previously conducted a silent operation in Kuantan Singingi and Jakarta starting 30 June, during which ten individuals were apprehended and five were taken to the KPK’s Merah Putih building. The Regent and Regional Secretary, who had not been detected during the initial operation, later surrendered and were picked up at Soekarno-Hatta Airport in Banten before being taken to the KPK office.
