KPK Names Gatot Heroe as New Suspect in Customs Corruption Case
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has confirmed Gatot Heroe, the Head of Customs and Excise in Kediri, as a new suspect in the bribery case at the Directorate General of Customs and Excise. The confirmation came from KPK’s Acting Director of Investigations, Achmad Taufik Husein, who stated that a formal investigation order had been issued for the individual. The information was also corroborated by John Field, the boss of PT BlueRay Cargo, who had been convicted as a briber in the case and was examined as a witness for the new suspect. The KPK previously announced the issuance of two new investigation warrants from the development of the importation corruption case, with one warrant specifically targeting a new suspect within the customs cluster. The case originated from a sting operation and has already seen several private sector defendants sentenced, while trials are ongoing for customs officials accused of receiving Rp 78.8 billion in bribes and gratuities.
