KPK Names Eight Suspects, Including Deputy Minister Silmy Karim, in Immigration Graft Case

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has officially elevated the alleged corruption case within the Directorate General of Immigration to the investigation stage. Following a sting operation (OTT), the anti-graft body named eight individuals as suspects. KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo confirmed that out of 18 people initially detained during the operation, eight had sufficient evidence to be processed as suspects, while the remaining 10 were released as witnesses. “Based on the sufficiency of evidence, the KPK has named 8 people as suspects out of the 18 detained in the caught-in-the-act incident,” Budi Prasetyo stated at the KPK’s Red and White Building in Jakarta. A prominent name on the list is Silmy Karim, who currently serves as Deputy Minister for Immigration and Corrections. Silmy was detained for his actions during his tenure as Director General of Immigration for the 2023-2024 period. The KPK has applied multiple charges against the suspects related to illicit practices in immigration document processing, specifically Article 12e of the Corruption Law on extortion in office and Article 12B concerning gratification. The eight suspects will undergo an initial 20-day detention period at the KPK detention centre to facilitate the investigation.
