KPK Names and Detains Sukoharjo Regent as Suspect
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has named Sukoharjo Regent Etik Suryani as a suspect in an alleged extortion case within the Sukoharjo Regency Government, Central Java, and immediately detained her. Etik was seen wearing an orange KPK detainee vest at the KPK’s Red and White Building in Jakarta in the early hours of Saturday, around 2:38 a.m. Western Indonesia Time. Based on an official KPK video that has been confirmed, two other detainees were also present alongside Etik. However, the KPK has yet to reveal the identities of those two individuals. Previously, on Thursday (10/7), the KPK confirmed it had conducted a sting operation against Etik Suryani. The operation was the 16th sting operation carried out by the KPK throughout 2026. The KPK stated that the sting operation was related to alleged extortion committed by the Sukoharjo Regent against regional officials within the Sukoharjo Regency Government. Initially, the KPK announced that five people had been arrested in the operation. However, that data was later updated to 18 people detained, with nine of them taken to Jakarta for intensive examination. In addition, the KPK seized evidence in the form of precious metals and cash worth billions of rupiah in Indonesian rupiah, Australian dollars, and Singaporean dollars.
