KPK: Muara Enim Regent Bribed BPK Officials to Secure Unqualified Audit Opinion

Muara Enim Regent Edison allegedly bribed civil servants at the Supreme Audit Agency (BPK) to ensure the regency retained its ‘Unqualified Opinion’ (WTP) predicate. The KPK’s Director of Investigation, Achmad Taufik Husein, explained that the regent’s efforts began after a BPK finding concerning the procurement of smart boards by Muara Enim Regency’s Education and Culture Agency. The BPK audit identified that the value of this item in the regency’s financial report exceeded the materiality threshold. Taufik stated during a press conference in Jakarta on Thursday (11/6/2026) that if this finding was not addressed, it would affect the opinion given to the Muara Enim Regency government. The regent, having secured a WTP opinion in previous years, was keen to ensure this status did not change. Regent Edison subsequently ordered his subordinates to manage the BPK finding. This led to a meeting between Abi Nurwardani, the Secretary of the Education and Culture Agency for 2026, and Augusz Dewanggara, a private sector party believed capable of altering the audit outcome. During the meeting, they negotiated the fee required to change the BPK audit finding. Angga then coordinated with suspect Titin Rita Lestari, a civil servant serving as a technical controller, to follow up on the manipulation. Angga received a fee of Rp 100 million from Abi as a facilitating payment to alter the BPK audit result. The KPK has named five suspects in the case and seized evidence including documents, a car, electronic evidence, and Rp 200 million in cash. The suspects are: Angga (private party), Titin Rita Lestari (civil servant/Technical Controller), Regent Edison, Cory Erin Hardi (marketing at PT Millenium Solusi Abadi), and Fika (Director of PT Millenium Solusi Abadi). Angga and Titin are charged under articles of the Corruption Eradication Law and the newly amended criminal code, while Edison, Cory, and Fika face charges under the amended criminal code.
