KPK Leadership Meeting Decides Change in Detainee Status for Yaqut
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Deputy for Enforcement and Execution of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Asep Guntur Rahayu stated that the process of changing the detention status of former Minister of Religious Affairs Yaqut Cholil Qoumas was discussed through a leadership-level meeting.
This was conveyed by Asep in response to various criticisms received by the anti-corruption agency following the change in Yaqut’s detention status to house arrest.
“So, regarding that request, it has of course undergone a meeting or exposition, so it’s not a personal decision. It’s an institutional decision,” Asep said at the Merah Putih Building, Jakarta, on Thursday (26/3/2026).
Asep stated that he attended the leadership-level meeting.
“I attended that meeting; I was one of those present. So, this will also be reported to the Dewas. Of course, the Supervisory Board will review how the decision was made. Just wait,” he said.
Asep also stated that the process of changing Yaqut’s detention status was in accordance with procedures, specifically Article 108 Paragraphs 1 and 11 of the Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP) No. 20 of 2025.
“In Law No. 20 of 2025 or the new KUHAP, it’s regulated in Article 108, with paragraphs 1 to 11, so that’s the legal norm,” he said.
Previously, former Minister of Religious Affairs Yaqut Cholil Qoumas was returned to the KPK Detention Centre (Rutan) on Tuesday (24/3/2026), after previously being under house arrest.
One week earlier, on Thursday (19/3/2026), Yaqut was switched to house arrest upon a request from his family.
The change in detention status was only announced by the KPK on Saturday (21/3/2026), coinciding with Eid al-Fitr 1447 H.
Yaqut was then switched back to facility detention as of Monday (23/3/2026).
Yaqut had previously been detained at the KPK rutan since 12 March 2026 after being named a suspect.
He is charged in the alleged corruption case of the 2023-2024 Hajj quota, with state losses amounting to Rp 622 billion.
