KPK lays bare in Yaqut pre-trial: State losses in the Hajj quota case amount to Rp 622 billion
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) says BPK has completed the calculation of state financial losses in the 2024 Hajj quota case that has ensnared former Religious Affairs Minister Yaqut Cholil Qoumas, also known as Gus Yaqut, as a suspect. The KPK disclosed the state losses in the matter amount to Rp 622,090,207,166.
“The essence of the criminal act in the subject matter has resulted in state losses of Rp 622,090,207,166, thus clearly, in relation to the corruption offense concerning the Hajj quota, this is a case of corruption that meets the criteria of Article 11(1)(d) of the KPK Law, namely losses of at least Rp 1 billion,” said the KPK Legal Bureau Team at the South Jakarta District Court, on Wednesday (4/3/2026).
The KPK said the process of naming Yaqut as a suspect has met the minimum requirement of two valid evidentiary instruments. The KPK stated that testimony was taken from more than 40 people.
KPK said the Applicant’s pretrial petition was “error in objecto.” The KPK stated the applicant’s request merged the substance of the case with the scope of the pretrial.
Earlier, Gus Yaqut’s camp asked the court to overturn the suspect status attached by the KPK. They argued that the evidence used by the KPK was not valid.
This was conveyed by Yaqut’s legal team in the pre-trial hearing concerning the designation of Yaqut as a suspect in the Hajj quota corruption case. Yaqut argued that the KPK did not have sufficient evidence to designate him as a suspect.
