KPK: Langkat Regent Sting Operation Linked to Bribery at Education and Housing Offices

Langkat Regent Syah Afandin was caught in a sting operation (OTT) by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) in Medan, North Sumatra. The KPK stated that the operation is linked to a bribery case involving projects at the Langkat Regency Education Office and the Housing and Settlement Areas (Perkim) Office.

“This case is suspected to be related to bribery for projects at the Education Office and the Perkim Office of Langkat Regency,” said KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo at the KPK building in Kuningan, South Jakarta, on Friday (3/7/2026).

During the operation, the KPK discovered bribe money allegedly intended for Regent Syah from a private party. The KPK is still investigating other suspected bribes or gratuities received by Regent Syah Afandin.

“The money secured in this sting operation is suspected to be related to project fees at the Education Office or the Perkim Office,” he stated. “We will certainly also investigate and trace whether there were other receipts or gratuities made by the regent or state officials in the Langkat area,” he added.

The KPK has sealed several locations as part of the investigation process. A total of seven people were detained by the KPK in this case. Besides Regent Syah, one of them is a civil servant (ASN) in Langkat, and five are private sector individuals.

These seven individuals were arrested in different areas, including Langkat, Binjai, and Medan. Regent Syah will be brought to Jakarta this afternoon. Those caught in the operation are still being examined. The KPK has 1 x 24 hours to determine the legal status of those detained.
