KPK: Langkat Regent Arrives at KPK Building for Further Questioning

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has informed that Langkat Regent Syah Afandin, also known as Ondim, has arrived in Jakarta after being caught in a sting operation (OTT). “The Langkat Regent, one of those detained in this caught-in-the-act incident, has arrived at the KPK’s Merah Putih Building in Jakarta at around 2.30 p.m. Western Indonesia Time,” said KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo to journalists in Jakarta on Friday. According to Budi, Ondim will undergo further examination after arriving at the KPK’s Merah Putih Building. “Colleagues in the press, we will continue to update you on the developments,” he said. Based on observations at the scene, a vehicle carrying the Langkat Regent headed to the rear of the KPK’s Merah Putih Building. Consequently, journalists who were waiting only photographed the vehicle and did not obtain images of the Langkat Regent. Previously, on Friday morning, the KPK confirmed it had conducted an OTT against Ondim. In the operation, the KPK also arrested six other individuals in the Langkat, Binjai, and Medan areas of North Sumatra. They comprised a civil servant from the Langkat Regency administration and five individuals from the private sector. In addition to detaining the parties, the KPK seized cash amounting to hundreds of millions of rupiah, suspected to be linked to project bribes within the Langkat Regency Education Department and the Langkat Regency Housing and Settlement Area Department. In accordance with the Criminal Procedure Code, the KPK has a maximum of 1 x 24 hours from the time of arrest to determine the legal status of the parties detained in the sting operation.
