KPK: Langkat Regent Arrested in Project Bribery Sting

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has revealed a sting operation (OTT) in Langkat Regency concerning alleged bribery related to projects in the Education Department and the Department of Housing and Residential Areas (Perkim).

During the operation, the KPK detained seven individuals, including the Regent of Langkat, Syah Afandin.

“This case is allegedly related to bribery for projects in the Education Department and the Perkim Department of Langkat Regency,” said KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo on Friday, 3 July 2026.

Budi explained that investigators will certainly delve into other allegations, such as any other receipts or gratifications received by the Regent.

“It will be investigated and traced whether there were other receipts or gratifications carried out by the Regent or state officials in the Langkat region,” he clarified.

It was previously reported that Budi revealed investigators also seized cash amounting to hundreds of millions of rupiah. This money is suspected to be part of the project fees received by the Regent of Langkat, Syah Afandin, from private parties.

“In this sting operation, the team also secured evidence, including cash worth hundreds of millions of rupiah, which is suspected to be part of project fees,” Budi stated.

Furthermore, Budi explained that the arrest of the Regent was carried out at his private residence in Medan.

“The Regent was certainly detained at his private residence located in the Medan area,” Budi said.

Syah Afandin is scheduled to be brought to Jakarta this afternoon for further interrogation.
