KPK Issues Ultimatum for Kuansing Regent and Secretary to Surrender
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has urged Kuantan Singingi (Kuansing) Regent Suhardiman Amby and Regional Secretary Zulkarnaen to be cooperative and surrender themselves. KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo stated that their testimonies are crucial for the ongoing legal process regarding alleged bribery in the buying and selling of positions within the Kuansing Regency, Riau. “KPK urges the Regent and Regional Secretary of Kuansing Regency to be cooperative and surrender to the KPK because their statements are needed in the legal process currently underway at the KPK,” Budi said at the KPK’s Merah Putih Building in Jakarta on Tuesday. Budi explained that the KPK had arrested ten individuals in this sting operation. Nine of them were detained in the Kuansing area and one other in Jakarta. He added that investigators had brought five of the ten individuals to the KPK’s Merah Putih Building for intensive examination. “The five consist of three private parties, one civil servant from the Kuantan Singingi Regency, and one family member of a state official or civil servant from Kuantan Singingi Regency,” he stated. In addition to the arrests, Budi mentioned that investigators also secured a number of pieces of evidence during the operation, including electronic evidence of financial transactions. “The team also secured one four-wheeled vehicle suspected of being an instrument of bribery used by the involved parties,” he said.
