Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) claims to have involved political parties before proposing regulations to limit the leadership of party chairpersons to a maximum of two terms of office, as stated in the political party governance study conducted by the KPK’s Monitoring Directorate.

“In the process of this study, the KPK has also involved political parties to obtain views and objective facts from colleagues in the political parties,” said KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo at the KPK’s Red and White Building in Jakarta on Thursday.

In addition, Budi said the proposal also came from party cadres involved by the KPK.

“Of course, because to examine it, we involved many elements, including colleagues from political parties who also provided suggestions and input in efforts to improve the political system in Indonesia,” he said.

Meanwhile, he assured that the results of the study will be conveyed by the KPK to each political party in Indonesia.

“Of course, because the KPK’s responsibility for every study is then to convey it to the relevant stakeholders,” he said.

He explained that this is done by the KPK so that it can be followed up by each political party.

“So that what? So that the results of this study do not just stop as a prescription. But this prescription must be followed up so that we can mitigate and carry out more concrete and optimal prevention in the future,” he said.

The KPK’s proposal was submitted as part of corruption prevention in line with findings that party cadre development is not running well, and there are entry costs for someone to become a party cadre and be supported in general elections.

Therefore, in the study, the KPK proposed improvements to the party cadre system to reduce such costs.

Then, to support good cadre development, the KPK proposed regulations limiting the term of office of party chairpersons to a maximum of two terms of office.
