KPK Investigating Nusron Wahid in Summarecon Case; President Will Not Intervene
The Corruption Eradrak Eradication Commission (KPK) has stated it will investigate the alleged involvement of the Minister of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/National Land Agency (ATR/BPN), Nusron Wahid, in a case involving alleged bribery and other gratifications within the Ministry related to Summarecon’s Building Rights (HGB).
This investigation is being conducted because four individuals believed to be close associates of Nusron Wahid are suspected of involvement in the corruption and have been named as suspects.
“Regarding NW [Nusron Wahid], his name has been mentioned during examinations. This is currently being investigated by the investigative team as part of the ongoing investigation process,” said the Acting Director of Investigation at the KPK, Achmad Taufik Husein, during a press conference at the Merah Putih Building, Jakarta, on Tuesday night (15/9).
In this case, the KPK detained 19 individuals in the Greater Jakarta area on Monday, 14 September 2026. This figure is an update from the previously reported 17 detainees.
Taufik noted that the time taken from the initial detention is insufficient to uncover all the facts, as further stages and more time are required. Within this short period, the KPK must determine the legal status of the parties involved through a case review (exposure) within 24 hours.
“We will see how far this develops based on the progress of the investigation. This is still in the early stages of the Investigation Order (Sprindik) itself,” said Tofik.
CNNIndonesia.com attempted to contact two telephone numbers used by Minister Nusron to enquire about the KPK’s sting operation within the Ministry of ATR/BPN and the alleged links to the funds. However, as of the time of publication, there has been no response.
President Will Not Intervene
The Palace has stated that it will not intervene in the legal process being conducted by the KPK.
The Deputy State Secretary, Bambang Eko Suhariyanto, stated that President Prabowo Subianto will not interfere if any cabinet members are entangled in alleged legal issues. This was in response to the allegations involving Nusron Wahid.
“We leave it to the authorities. The President always says that if there are legal issues and such, leave it to the law enforcement agencies. Therefore, he will not want to interfere in such matters,” said Bambang at the parliamentary complex, Jakarta, on Wednesday (16/9).
Tracing the Money Trail
KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo stated there are allegations that other parties are involved in the bribery case regarding the processing of Building Rights (HGB) within the Ministry of ATR/BPN.
Consequently, investigators will trace the flow of funds amounting to Rp300 million and Rp106.3 billion provided by PT Summarecon Agung Tbk to several parties within the Ministry, including four of Nusron’s associates who have been detained.
“We will continue to deepen our investigation into the facts obtained and the evidence acquired during the sting operation, involving parties acting as layers, representatives, or trusted associates. We will see whether it stops with these individuals or flows to other parties,” said Budi at the Merah Putih Building, Jakarta, on Wednesday (16/9).
“Naturally, we will conduct a ‘follow the money’ approach. We will trace where the money trail leads,” Budi added.
The KPK has opened the possibility of questioning Nusron based on the involvement of his close associates in this case.
“For public officials, for instance, there is a moral responsibility and a responsibility to comply with the law to ensure that the law enforcement process can run effectively. This includes, for example, attending summons and providing the information required by investigators,” said Buju.
He added that investigators are continuously arranging investigation strategies to fully uncover the case. The examination of witnesses, searches, seizures, and measures to prevent certain parties from travelling abroad are certainly being prepared.
“We are all waiting because this is still the initial investigation. We are progressing, and we will continue to update the developments of this case,” said Budi.
According to the case construction presented by the KPK during the press conference on Tuesday night (15/9), four of the eight suspects in the alleged bribery case within the Ministry of ATR/BPN are believed to be close associates of Minister Nusron Wahid.
The four suspects are Arif Sugiyanto, Fahd El Fouz (alias Fahd A Rafiq), Erwin, and Muhammad Fakhry.
The other four suspects, who have also been detained by the KPK for the initial 20-day period until 4 October 2026, are the Head of the Bogor Regency Land Office, Sontang Coin Manurung; President Director of PT Summarecon Agung Tbk, Adrianto Pitojo Adhi; the Director General of Land Control and Regulation of the Ministry of ATR/BPN, Lampri; and Rizal Pahlevi (a private individual).
