Initially, KPK Acting Director of Investigations Achmad Taufik Husein explained that investigators would delve into whether former Deputy Minister of Immigration and Corrections Silmy Karim had destroyed evidence. Achmad noted that the team had difficulty locating evidence during a search. “It is true the field team was searching. But whether there were efforts made before the person concerned attended or was present at the KPK building will also be material for further investigation,” Achmad Taufik Husein stated during a press conference at the KPK’s Merah Putih Building in South Jakarta on Thursday (4/6/2026). Taufik said that if the destruction of evidence is proven, his party would investigate other articles of law that may have been violated. “That means we will see if there was any destruction of evidence. That would constitute a separate act, of course. And there will be other articles involved if we indeed find such facts. If it is true, we will also investigate to apply those other articles,” he said. Taufik confirmed that the naming of the suspects was based on facts already investigated by his team. He also said investigators would probe the involvement of other officials in the case. “Of course, this is based on the evidence we have and the statements from each witness and suspect. If there are indeed other officials involved, the investigative team will certainly pursue them because this is truly just the beginning,” he said.
