KPK Investigates Intervention and Fee Flows of Pati Regent Sudewo in Railway Corruption Case

The KPK has begun investigating the role of non-active Pati Regent Sudewo in connection with alleged corruption at the Directorate General of Railways (DJKA) of the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub). The KPK is now probing suspicions of interventions carried out by Sudewo in the arrangement of tenders at the Railway Technical Office (BTP) in the East Java (Jatim) region.

KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo explained that this investigation is being conducted through the examination of several witnesses today. The witnesses examined by the KPK in the DJKA case today are three individuals: M Sjawal Hidayat from PT Surya Kencana Baru, Nur Widayat as Commissioner of PT Mataram Inti Kontruksi, and Commissioner of CV Cakra Semesta, as well as Helmi Setiawan as a PPPK at BTP Class I Surabaya.

“All witnesses attended. The investigators delved into the witnesses’ knowledge regarding the alleged interventions and tender arrangements at the BTP in East Java, which are suspected to have been carried out by SDW as a member of the DPR’s Commission V together with Harno Trimadi and the PPK,” Budi explained to reporters on Tuesday (21/4/2026).

In addition, the investigators deepened their examination of the witnesses concerning the flow of fees given to the former member of the DPR’s Commission V in relation to the project. The fees are suspected to have been received by Sudewo through intermediaries.

“In this examination, the witnesses were also questioned about the alleged provision of fees to SDW through his trusted intermediary,” said Budi.

For information, the KPK has designated non-active Pati Regent Sudewo as a suspect in this case. The KPK stated that Sudewo was designated as a suspect in his capacity as a former member of the DPR’s Commission V.

For information, this case began to unravel through a sting operation (OTT) on 11 April 2023 at the Central Java Railway Technical Office. A total of 10 individuals were designated as suspects in the bribery case related to railway track construction and maintenance projects.

The case continues to be developed by KPK investigators, uncovering similar practices in West Java, North Sumatra, and Sulawesi. So far, there are 21 suspects, including two corporations, in this case.
