KPK Investigates Importers' Bribery of Customs Officials
The KPK has questioned an import business owner in a case involving alleged bribery of officials at the Directorate General of Customs and Excise (DJBC). The investigation focuses on vehicle facilities provided to customs officials who have been named suspects.
KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo stated, “Today’s questioning delved into the provision of vehicle facilities to officials at the DJBC by one of the import business witnesses, Ign Denny Narendra. The vehicles provided by the business owner are used for the operations of the suspects, as designated by the KPK, for customs operations or other matters.”
He added that the facility provision is being investigated under Article 12B of the Anti-Corruption Law regarding gratuities to state officials, but clarified it differs from vehicles seized during previous searches at the DJBC office.
The KPK is also probing whether other importers beyond PT BlueRay Cargo are involved in the corruption scheme. Prasetyo said, “We will further investigate whether similar practices have been carried out by other importers for importing goods, such as setting up red or green lanes, not just by PT BlueRay Cargo.”
Three Semarang customs officials—Khanan, Budi Winanto, and Sutopo—were summoned today, following the seizure of a container during a search at Tanjung Mas Port. Alongside the customs officials, three private sector witnesses—Ign Denny Narendra, Danang, and Aditya Rahman Rony Putra—were also questioned.
The KPK also interrogated Semarang entrepreneur Heri Setiyono, alias ‘Black Heri’, whose home was searched. Witnesses were confirmed regarding container findings from the search at Tanjung Mas Port, as well as notes documenting payments to DJBC officials.
In the case, the KPK initially named six suspects after a raid at the DJBC over import bribery allegations, seizing evidence worth a total of Rp 40.5 billion. This includes Rp 1.89 billion in rupiah, USD 182,900, SGD 1.48 million, JPY 55,000, 2.5kg of gold bullion (Rp 7.4 billion), 2.8kg of gold bullion (Rp 8.3 billion), and a luxury watch valued at Rp 138 million.
Three BlueRay Cargo executives—John Field, Deddy Kurniawan Sukolo, and Andri—have already faced trial. They are accused of providing SGD 61.3 billion in Singapore dollars and facilities and luxury items worth Rp 1.8 billion. KPK prosecutors allege violations of Article 605(1)(a) and Article 606(1) of Law No. 1 of 2023 on the Criminal Code.
