KPK Investigates Alleged Rp100 Million Payment to Gus Miftah
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is looking into the alleged payment of Rp100 million to preacher Miftah Maulana Habiburrohman, known as Gus Miftah, which emerged during the trial of an alleged corruption case at the Directorate General of Railways (DJKA) of the Ministry of Transport.
KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo said at the KPK’s Red and White Building in Jakarta on Tuesday that every fact emerging in court will be analysed by public prosecutors (JPU) to determine how to follow up on the case.
“This will be explored further because every fact from the trial will certainly be analysed by the prosecutors,” he said.
According to Budi, the KPK will also examine the initiative, motive and purpose behind the alleged Rp100 million payment.
“What was the motive of the payment by the person concerned to the party named in this trial, what their position was, who initiated it, and what the money was intended for,” he said.
“Certainly, there is a possibility that if it is later proven that the money was connected to or originated from the proceeds of the alleged corruption currently being tried in court,” he added.
However, he said the KPK is still awaiting the outcome of evidentiary proceedings in court and the judges’ assessment of the facts revealed.
