The Corruption Eradification Commission (KPK) is currently investigating alleged information leaks related to sting operations (OTT) conducted in Kuantan Singingi (Kuansing) Regency, Riau, and Langkat Regency, North Sumatra. This step was taken following indications that the operation targets may have been aware of the investigators’ planned arrival.

The Acting Director of Investigations at the KPK, Achmad Taufik Husein, confirmed that the investigation is being conducted following suspicions regarding the Regent of Kuansing, Suhardiman Amby, and the Regent of Langkat, Syah Afandin, who are alleged to have anticipated the operations.

“Therefore, further in-depth investigation by the KPK team is still required,” Taufik stated at the KPK Red and White Building, Jakarta, on Friday night.

In addition to conducting an internal investigation into the source of the leak, the KPK plans to conduct a total evaluation of the execution of sting operations in the field. This evaluation aims to minimise information gaps that could be exploited by external parties or operation targets in the future.

Taufik explained that the team will review the technical movement of personnel, such as whether the team moves in large groups or together, which risks triggering suspicion from outside parties.

“We will evaluate to avoid things that might not be leaks from within, but are suspected by outside parties, causing the information to reach our targets,” he added.

Despite the suspicion that operational information has leaked, Taufik emphasised that this will not halt the legal process. He believes that criminal evidence can still be found because every crime leaves a trace.

This suspected leak emerged following irregularities in two operations conducted in late June 2026. To date, the KPK has named Suhardiman Amby, Zulkarnain, and Syah Afandin as suspects in alleged corruption crimes. The anti-corruption agency ensured it will continue to trace the criminal tracks left by the suspects to complete the investigation files.

Further details indicate that Suhardiman received a vehicle as a bribe related to the sale and purchase of positions for the Head of the Public Works and Spatial Planning Office (PUPR) in Kuansing in 2021. The request was reportedly made during the selection process for the Kuansing Regional Secretary position opened in April 2025. The KPK has requested Suhardiman and Zulkarnain to surrender themselves for questioning, and both subsequently surrendered and were picked up by the KPK at Soekarno-Hatta Airport.
