KPK interrogates nine witnesses in Tulungagung Regency corruption case
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) interrogated nine witnesses on Monday as part of the ongoing investigation into alleged extortion and other illegal receipts involving the inactive Regent of Tulungagung, Gatut Sunu Wibowo. The interrogations took place at the East Java Regional Police Criminal Investigation Directorate in Surabaya, with witnesses comprising officials from the Tulungagung Regency Government and private sector project executors.
The Acting Regional Secretary of Tulungagung, Tri Hariadi, confirmed that two Echelon II officials, namely the Head of the Tulungagung Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Sudarmadji, and the Head of the Tulungagung KBPPPA Office, Dr Kasil Rokhmad, had requested permission for out-of-town activities. “Two individuals requested permission from me, likely to attend the KPK summons,” said Tri Hariadi.
KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo stated that a total of nine witnesses were examined, with one official from the Tulungagagung Regency Government and eight representatives from the private sector. The witnesses interrogated included the Head of BPBD Tulungagung, representatives from PT Berkah Mitra Tani, CV Nindya Krida, PT Demaz Noer Abadi, CV Triples, CV Mitra Razulka Sakti, CV Tulungagung Jaya, CV AYEM Mulya, and CV Sapta Sarana.
Previously, the KPK named Gatut Sunu Wibowo a suspect in a corruption case involving extortion against 16 Regional Apparatus Organisations (OPD) within the Tulungagung Regency Government. The alleged extortion involved demands totalling Rp5 billion, of which approximately Rp2.7 billion was realised. The KPK has also seized approximately Rp428 million in cash, several luxury items, and documents believed to be linked to the extortion practices within the regional government.
