KPK Highlights Customs and Immigration Cases Among 17 Sting Operations This Year

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has revealed it conducted 17 sting operations up to July 2026. Among these, the cases involving the Directorate General of Customs and Excise and the bribery case implicating former Director General of Immigration Silmy Karim were considered the most prominent. “What stands out, perhaps, you can judge for yourselves. From our perspective, the one with significant asset recovery or large evidence is the Customs case. From the sting operation alone, we secured Rp45 billion, not including further developments,” said Acting Director of Investigations at the KPK, Achmad Taufik Husein, to reporters at the KPK building in Kuningan, South Jakarta, on Tuesday (21/7/2026). “Then the second is Immigration. We consider it prominent because the service is also a barometer of international service in our country,” he continued. Taufik stated that sting operations are the initial gateway to uncovering corruption events, from which investigators will then conduct further development. “Usually, a sting operation is just an entry point. The development of the investigation process for several of the sting operations we have carried out has been quite good,” he said. The 17 sting operations conducted by the KPK throughout 2026 are as follows: 1. North Jakarta Medium Tax Office - Dwi Budi Iswahyu; 2. Madiun Mayor - Maidi; 3. Pati Regent - Sudewo; 4. Head of Banjarmasin Medium Tax Office - Mulyono; 5. Directorate General of Customs and Excise Officials; 6. Chair and Deputy Chair of Depok District Court; 7. Pekalongan Regent - Fadia Arafiq; 8. Rejang Lebong Regent - M. Fikri Thobari; 9. Cilacap Regent - Syamsul Auliya Rachman; 10. Tulungagung Regent - Gatut Sunu Wibowo; 11. Ministry of Immigration and Corrections - Vice Minister Silmy Karim; 12. Muara Enim Regent - Edison; 13. Supreme Audit Agency (BPK) Officials; 14. Kuantan Singingi Regent - Suhardiman Amby; 15. Langkat Regent - Syah Afandin; 16. Sukoharjo Regent - Etik Suryani; 17. West Lombok Regent - Lalu Ahmad Zaini.
