KPK Has Written to TNI Commander over BNPB Fund Corruption Case
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has written to TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto in connection with its investigation into alleged corruption involving the National Disaster Management Agency’s (BNPB) ready-to-use funds for disaster response.
“Correct, the KPK has sent a letter to the TNI Commander,” KPK Chairman Setyo Budiyanto told journalists in Jakarta on Wednesday.
Setyo added that the anti-corruption agency sent the letter on 20 October 2026.
The case began when the KPK carried out a sting operation at the BNPB on 13 October 2026, arresting 15 people. The following day, the commission named five people as suspects.
One of them is Bima Setiawan, the younger brother of Lieutenant General Suharyanto, who was serving as BNPB chief at the time of the operation. Bima was also an expert staff member to the BNPB chief while Suharyanto was in office.
On 16 October 2026, the KPK seized evidence worth Rp5.47 billion, comprising US$7,500, S$9,000, Rp3.35 billion, 56 gold bars weighing a total of 133 grammes and valued at Rp315.8 million, gold savings totalling 192 grammes and worth Rp452 million, and crypto assets worth Rp1.10 billion.
The KPK has also searched the BNPB chief’s office and several other rooms at the agency’s headquarters after naming suspects in the case.
The KPK has also informed the TNI Military Police Centre (Puspom TNI) about Suharyanto’s role.
