The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has decided not to continue its investigation into alleged corruption in the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) programme after the Attorney General’s Office took over the case and named suspects.

KPK Chairman Setyo Budiyanto explained the reasoning. “If there has already been an upaya paksa (forced measure) and so forth, then we will certainly cease our activities for the time being,” Setyo said at the parliament complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Wednesday (17/6/2026).

Setyo revealed that the KPK is not proceeding because the Attorney General’s Office has already entered the investigation phase. He noted that the KPK’s position was still at the preliminary inquiry stage. “Because our stage is still penyelidikan (preliminary inquiry),” he stated.

The KPK had previously disclosed it was conducting a preliminary inquiry into the case within the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) programme. However, the commission would determine the next steps because another law enforcement agency was already handling the same matter.

“That is correct, I have conveyed that we indeed already had a lidik (preliminary inquiry), but then another law enforcement agency elevated the process to the investigation stage, so according to statutory provisions there cannot be dualism in investigations,” said Plt Director of Investigation at the KPK, Taufik Ahmad Husein, at the KPK building in Kuningan, Jakarta, on Monday (8/6).

The KPK will determine the follow-up through a case review session. According to Taufik, coordination will be carried out regarding the next steps, including the possibility of transferring the case to the Attorney General’s Office.

“Of course, we will also look at the synergy, what we will further develop for the investigation process, whether the data will later be handed over to the Prosecutor’s Office. We will await the results of the case review, whatever is decided by the leadership,” he said.
