KPK Halts MBG Corruption Inquiry, Hands Over to Attorney General's Office

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has decided to temporarily halt its inquiry activities related to alleged corruption in the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) programme within the National Nutrition Agency (BGN). This step was taken following legal proceedings now being conducted by the Attorney General’s Office (Kejagung). KPK Chairman Setyo Budiyanto explained that the decision was based on coercive measures already undertaken by other law enforcement officials. Given that the status at the KPK was still at the inquiry stage, his party chose to make room for the ongoing investigation process. “I think if there have already been coercive measures and so forth, we certainly do not need to carry out activities for the time being because at that time our stage was still inquiring,” Setyo Budiyanto said at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Wednesday (17/6). Setyo affirmed that the KPK places full trust in the performance of the Attorney General’s Office in thoroughly investigating the case at BGN. He assessed that the process carried out by the Kejagung so far has been transparent and accountable. “We believe that law enforcement officials carry out their duties to the maximum extent possible. We can see the transparency, everything has been published and that is part of openness in the law enforcement process,” he added. Regarding inter-agency coordination, Setyo stated that his party will continue to monitor the development of the case. If further synergy is required in the future, the KPK is ready to coordinate with the adhyaksa corps. Previously, on 3 June 2026, the Attorney General’s Office had named three main suspects in the alleged corruption case concerning the governance of the MBG programme. They are former BGN Head Dadan Hindayana, and two former BGN Deputy Heads, Lodewyk Pusung and Sony Sanjaya. The KPK itself had revealed on 8 June 2026 that it was also conducting a parallel inquiry when the Kejagung announced the suspects’ detention. However, with significant investigative developments at the Kejagung, the KPK chose to withdraw to avoid overlapping case handling. The Free Nutritious Meals programme is one of the national strategic programmes currently under public scrutiny, especially after the uncovering of corrupt practices in governance at the central level of the National Nutrition Agency.
