KPK Facilitates Eid Prayers for 67 Detainees, Including Yaqut
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is facilitating 67 detainees in suspected corruption cases to perform Eid al-Fitr prayers for 1447 Hijriah/2026 CE. Among these 67 detainees are two suspects in the alleged corruption case involving Hajj quotas: former Minister of Religious Affairs Yaqut Cholil Qoumas and former Special Staff to the Minister of Religious Affairs Ishfah Abidal Aziz, also known as Gus Alex. “Tomorrow, or Saturday (21/3), coinciding with 1 Syawal 1447 Hijriah, KPK will hold Eid al-Fitr prayers starting around 06:30-08:00 WIB at the Masjid Gedung Merah Putih KPK,” said KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo to journalists in Jakarta on Friday. Budi explained that this facility is a special service that embodies KPK’s commitment to upholding the principle of human rights by ensuring that every detainee still receives their basic rights, such as the right to perform worship according to their respective beliefs. “KPK views the fulfilment of religious rights as a fundamental element that must be protected, including for those undergoing legal processes,” he said. Therefore, he stated that the law enforcement process carried out by KPK does not ignore humanitarian values but runs alongside respect for each individual’s basic rights. Meanwhile, he explained that there are currently 81 KPK detainees, consisting of 41 people from the KPK State Detention Centre Branch at Gedung Merah Putih and 40 people from the KPK Detention Centre at the Central Anti-Corruption Education Building. Of this total, 67 are Muslim.
