KPK Extends Gus Yaqut's Detention Period by 30 Days

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has extended the detention period of former Minister of Religious Affairs Yaqut Cholil Qoumas, or Gus Yaqut, as a suspect in the alleged corruption case concerning Hajj quotas. KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo stated that Yaqut’s detention has been extended for another 30 days. “This second detention extension is for 30 days ahead,” Budi said in his statement on Friday, 8 May 2026. Budi explained that the extension of the detention period is required because the investigation into the Hajj quota case is still ongoing at the KPK. “This extension is needed because the investigation is still in progress; investigators are continuing to examine a number of witnesses,” he added. For context, former Minister of Religious Affairs Yaqut Cholil Qoumas arrived at the KPK’s Red and White Building in South Jakarta on Friday, 8 May 2026, around 09:41 WIB. Yaqut came to the KPK to sign documents related to the extension of his detention period. Shortly afterwards, Yaqut left the KPK examination room around 10:35 WIB. He did not speak much to the media. However, Yaqut passed on greetings to the Minister of Social Affairs Saifullah Yusuf, or Gus Ipul, who was holding an audience with the KPK at the same time regarding the procurement of the People’s School programme. “Nothing (to say), greetings to Gus Ipul,” said Gus Yaqut. In the alleged Hajj quota corruption case, the KPK has named four individuals as suspects. They include former Minister of Religious Affairs Yaqut Cholil Qoumas, former Special Staff to the Minister of Religious Affairs Ishfah Abidal Aziz (IAA), alias Gus Alex. Then, Commissioner of PT Raudah Eksati Utama and Chairman of Kesthuri Asrul Azis Taba (ASR), and Operational Director of PT Makassar Toraja (Maktour) Ismail Adham (ISM).
