KPK Extends Detention of Yaqut Cholil Qoumas for Another 30 Days
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has extended the detention period of former Minister of Religious Affairs and suspect in the alleged corruption case regarding the 2023-2024 Hajj quota, Yaqut Cholil Qoumas, for another 30 days. “This second detention extension is for 30 days ahead,” said KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo in his statement on Friday (8/5/2026). “This extension is necessary because the investigation is still ongoing; investigators continue to examine several witnesses,” he added. Yaqut was temporarily allowed to return home or placed under house arrest during the Eid al-Fitr holiday on 19 March 2026, and returned to the KPK detention centre on 24 March 2026, with his GERD-related health condition cited as the reason. In addition to Yaqut, the KPK is also detaining another suspect, Yaqut’s special staff member Ishfah Abidal Aziz alias Gus Alex, since 17 March 2026. Both are charged under Article 2 and Article 3 of the Law on the Eradication of Criminal Acts of Corruption (UU Tipikor), which address state losses. Based on calculations by the KPK and the Supreme Audit Agency (BPK), the state losses from this corruption case amount to Rp 622 billion.
