The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has once again extended the detention period of former Religious Affairs Minister and suspect in the hajj quota corruption case, Yaqut Cholil Qoumas. KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo stated that the extension of detention was implemented from Tuesday, 9 June 2026, for the next 30 days. “Investigators have extended the detention for the next 30 days,” he said, as quoted on Wednesday, 10 June 2026. Budi explained that the extension of Yaqut’s detention was due to investigators continuing their inquiry to complete the case file before entering the prosecution stage. “This is in preparation for the stage 2 transfer to prosecution; as all four are now detained, the hope is that all of them can be transferred at the same time,” Budi explained. In this case, the KPK has named four suspects: Yaqut Cholil Qoumas, Ishfah Abidal Aziz alias Gua Alex, Ismail Adham, and Asrul Azis Taba. A few days ago, Ismail and Asrul were detained for their initial 20-day period. The KPK is currently finalising the case files for all four suspects to proceed to prosecution and trial. The alleged corruption surrounding the hajj quota within the Religious Affairs Ministry, implicating state officials and private parties, has resulted in losses of up to Rp622 billion.
