KPK Explains Why Travel Bans for Gus Yaqut and Gus Alex Were Extended, but Not for Maktour Boss
JAKARTA — The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has stated that there is a legal basis behind the differing treatment regarding overseas travel bans imposed on former Religious Affairs Minister Yaqut Cholil Qoumas (YCQ), former special staff member Alex, and the head of the Maktour travel agency.
The anti-graft body explained that the extension of travel prevention orders for Gus Yaqut and Gus Alex was grounded in their respective roles and legal standings within the ongoing corruption investigation, whilst different considerations applied to the Maktour boss.
The case relates to the broader investigation into alleged corruption in the allocation of hajj pilgrimage quotas, which has implicated several high-ranking officials and private sector figures connected to the Ministry of Religious Affairs.
