The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has revealed details of a bribery case involving the procurement of smart boards at the Education and Culture Office of Muara Enim Regency. In uncovering this case, the KPK conducted a joint investigation with the Police Anti-Corruption Corps (Kortas Tipikor). The KPK disclosed that it is still experiencing constraints in human resources, which led to the joint investigation with Kortas Tipikor. KPK Director of Investigation Achmad Taufik Husein explained that the background to this joint investigation stemmed from several obstacles in handling cases at the KPK, necessitating synergy with other law enforcement agencies. He noted that limitations in human resources and widespread jurisdictions, coupled with a large caseload, required breakthroughs. Furthermore, this effort aims to resolve cases categorised as carry-over. Taufik acknowledged that such carry-over cases arose partly from the many sting operations recently conducted by the KPK. He stated they would resolve cases with investigation warrants issued before 2026, as some long-standing cases had stalled following undercover investigations. Regarding the division of tasks, Taufik explained that for regencies outside Java, it is possible to develop cases jointly with Kortas Tipikor, and handling could even be fully transferred. For cases at the central level, joint investigations would also be considered for future activities. However, for the Muara Enim case, Taufik assured that the subsequent handling would be entirely conducted by the KPK, although the local field investigation was assisted by a team from the National Police Headquarters. Kortas Tipikor Director of Enforcement, Brigadier General Yohanes De Deo, stated that cooperation between the National Police and the KPK in handling corruption cases had previously occurred in 2021 during a closed investigation. He explained that with the formation of Kortas Tipikor, efforts at joint investigation cooperation would be enhanced and optimised, including for future cases. Yohanes added they are developing work patterns for handling corruption at regional levels. In the Muara Enim case, the KPK has detained four suspects, including Muara Enim District Head Edison. The other suspects are the 2026 Secretary of the Education and Culture Office, Abi Nurwardani; the district head’s nephew, Adi Triyadi; and a marketing representative from PT Millenium Solusi Abadi, Cory Erin Hardi. The KPK revealed that Edison received a 5 percent cut from the total bribery sum for the smart board procurement, amounting to Rp500 million. Edison allegedly received his share via his nephew, Adi Triyadi. To collect the bribe money, Edison allegedly ordered Abi Nurwardani to create nominee accounts using the identities of several local government employees.
