The Corruption Eradication Commission’s (KPK) sting operation involving Klaten Regent Hamenang Wajar Ismoyo is suspected to be connected to bribery, including matters concerning an audit by the Supreme Audit Agency (BPK).

Ismoyo and several other people were caught in the operation carried out by the KPK in Klaten and Jakarta on Thursday (15 October).

Those detained included the regent, civil servants from the Klaten regency administration, private-sector individuals and the head of the BPK’s Central Java representative office.

During the operation, the KPK’s enforcement team also seized about Rp1 billion. The figure is provisional.

Budi added that those detained, including the regent, were still being questioned at Klaten Police Station.

Those arrested in Jakarta were being questioned at the KPK’s Red and White Building.

The KPK is said to have named suspects in the case and was expected to announce them on Friday (16 October).
