KPK Expands Corruption Investigation into South Sumatra Rail Project, Begins Witness Interrogations

This investigation is an expansion of the initial probe that originated from a sting operation. The KPK subsequently issued a new investigation order in May 2026, stated KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo to journalists on Tuesday (2/6/2026).

The KPK is still utilising a general investigation order for this expansion, meaning no suspects have been formally named at this stage.

Two witnesses were summoned today: Farah Dina Eka Syamriati (FD), a civil servant at the Class II BTP for the South Sumatra Region, and Anisah (ANS), the President Director of PT Surya Annisa Kencana. The witness FD failed to appear, while Anisah was present.

“Witness FD did not attend, and investigators have not yet received confirmation from the witness. Witness ANS attended and is being questioned regarding the implementation of the railway line construction project in the South Sumatra region,” he said.

The case first came to light through a sting operation on 11 April 2023 at the Central Java Railway Engineering Office. Investigators are continuing to expand the probe, uncovering similar practices in West Java, North Sumatra, and Sulawesi.

One of the suspects is the inactive Regent of Pati, Sudewo, who is implicated in the bribery case involving the construction and maintenance of railway lines. The KPK stated that Sudewo was named a suspect in his capacity as a former member of Commission V of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI).
