KPK Examines Yaqut to Probe Roles of Other Parties in Haj Quota Case
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is examining former Minister of Religious Affairs (Menag) Yaqut Cholil Qoumas (YCQ) today. KPK will delve into the roles of other parties in the corruption case involving the 2023-2024 haj quota. “This examination in the case is also needed to continue probing the alleged possibility of other parties who have central roles in the suspected criminal corruption act,” said KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo to reporters on Wednesday (25/3/2026). He stated that this examination is also being conducted to accelerate the case filing process. This is the first examination after Yaqut was returned to KPK detention. “This examination is a quick and progressive step by the investigators to promptly complete the investigation dossier for the haj quota case,” he said. It is known that Yaqut had been under house arrest since Thursday (19/3). KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo said that house arrest for Yaqut was implemented after KPK received a request from his family. KPK then granted the request without providing further details on the family’s reasons for submitting the application. “So it was indeed due to a request from the family, which we then processed. Not because of illness,” Budi explained on Sunday (22/3). This decision then drew criticism from various parties. KPK subsequently returned Yaqut’s status to detention on Tuesday (24/3).
