JAKARTA – The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) examined inactive Riau Governor Abdul Wahid as a witness regarding an alleged extortion or acceptance of gifts or promises within Riau Provincial Government for fiscal year 2025 on Monday (9 March 2026).

Besides Abdul Wahid, the KPK also called two other witnesses: Muh Arief Setiawan, Head of the Public Works and Housing Department (PUPR) of Riau Province, and Dani M Nursalam, an Expert Staff member of the Regional Development Planning Board (Bapeda) of Riau Province.

“The examination was conducted at the KPK’s Red and White Building,” stated KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo in a statement on Monday.

Previously, the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) completed the investigation phase for inactive Riau Governor Abdul Wahid regarding an alleged extortion case using the “preman quota” scheme at Riau Provincial Government for fiscal year 2025 on Monday (1 March 2026).

“Today, Monday (2 March), the investigation into the alleged corruption offence related to extortion within Riau Provincial Government has been declared complete or P21, and transferred to the prosecution stage,” stated KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo.

Budi said investigators completed the second phase of investigation by transferring evidence and three suspects to the prosecution team.

The three suspects are Riau Governor Abdul Wahid, Public Works Department Head Muhammad Arief Setiawan, and Riau Governor’s Expert Staff Dani M Nursalam.

“The case file will subsequently be submitted to the Corruption Court (Tipikor) for trial proceedings,” he added.

The KPK established inactive Riau Governor Abdul Wahid as a suspect in the extortion case within Riau Provincial Government on Wednesday (5 November 2025).

Besides Abdul Wahid, the KPK established two other suspects: Public Works Department Head Muhammad Arief Setiawan and Riau Governor’s Expert Staff Dani M Nursalam.

KPK Deputy Chair Johanis Tanak stated that the total amount of money extorted through the preman quota scheme transferred to Riau Governor Abdul Wahid from the Public Works Department Unit Head totalled Rp 4.05 billion.

“Thus, the total transfers from June to November 2025 reached Rp 4.05 billion from the initial agreement of Rp 7 billion,” said Johanis at the KPK’s Red and White Building, Jakarta, on Wednesday (5 November 2025).

As a result of their actions, the suspects are charged with violating provisions under articles 12e and/or 12f and/or 12B of Law Number 31 of 1999 concerning Eradication of Corruption Offences as amended by Law Number 20 of 2001 on Amendment to Law Number 31 of 1999 concerning Eradication of Corruption Offences, in conjunction with article 55 paragraph (1) clause 1 of the Criminal Code.
