KPK Examines Muhadjir Effendy, What Is His Involvement in the Hajj Quota Case?
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has questioned Muhadjir Effendy, the former Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Cultural Affairs, as a witness in connection with the alleged haj quota graft for 2023-2024 on Monday (18 May 2026). Muhadjir was questioned in the capacity of Ad Interim Minister of Religion in 2022. “In the continuation of the investigation into the case related to the haj quota, today investigators scheduled the examination of Saksi MHJ as Ad Interim Minister of Religion in 2022,” KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo said in a statement on Monday. Initially, Muhadjir submitted a request to postpone his examination to the KPK because he had prior engagements. “The person in question has confirmed and requested a postponement of the examination. Investigators will reschedule his testimony. In principle, every witness’ statement is needed in the investigation of this case,” Budi said. However, as dusk set in, Muhadjir suddenly arrived at the KPK’s Merah Putih Building on Monday evening at 17:54 WIB. He wore a brown batik shirt with black trousers and carried brown documents. He only said that he was examined in his capacity as Ad Interim Minister of Religion in 2022. “Just that, I was ad interim Minister of Religion in 2022,” Muhadjir said after being examined by the KPK. When asked about the examination related to former Haj and Umrah Affairs Director General Hilman Latief, Muhadjir said there were no statements on that matter. Muhadjir confirmed that he had indeed asked to postpone the examination today to the KPK. However, he chose to comply with the investigators’ summons after there was a lot of media coverage about him.
