Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has examined Syarif Thalib, the Operational Director of PT Marco Tour and Travel, to investigate the trading of Hajj quotas.

KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo explained that the examination took place on 24 April 2026 as part of the investigation into the alleged corruption case concerning Hajj quotas.

“Investigators are delving into the witness’s statements regarding the sale or allocation of quotas, including any unlawful profits obtained,” Budi told journalists in Jakarta on Saturday.

Previously, on 9 August 2025, the KPK initiated the investigation into the alleged corruption of Indonesia’s 2023-2024 Hajj quotas.

On 9 January 2026, the KPK named former Religious Affairs Minister Yaqut Cholil Qoumas and Ishfah Abidal Aziz, alias Gus Alex, as suspects.

Meanwhile, Fuad Hasan Masyhur, the owner of the Maktour Hajj organising agency, was not designated as a suspect, despite previously being banned from leaving the country.

The KPK subsequently received the results of an audit by the Financial and Development Supervisory Agency (BPK) of the Republic of Indonesia on 27 February 2026, which stated that state financial losses in the case amounted to Rp622 billion.

Subsequently, on 12 March 2026, the KPK detained Yaqut at the KPK’s Red and White Building Branch State Detention Centre, followed by the detention of Ishfah on 17 March 2026.

The KPK temporarily changed Yaqut’s detention status to house arrest on 19 March 2026 at the family’s request, but re-detained him at the KPK Detention Centre on 24 March 2026.

On 30 March 2026, the KPK named two new suspects: Maktour Operational Director Ismail Adham and Chairman of the Indonesian Hajj and Umrah Tour and Travel Union (Kesthuri) Asrul Aziz Taba.
