KPK examines Gus Alex's confession regarding 3,000 riyals for Commission VIII DPR Working Committee members
All testimony from every witness and expert will be carefully examined and reviewed by the KPK’s Public Prosecutor team.
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is reviewing statements from the defendant in the alleged Hajj quota corruption case, Ishfah Abidal Aziz, also known as Gus Alex, during a trial concerning a request for 3,000 riyals per person for 24 members of the DPR RI Commission VIII Working Committee.
“All testimony from every witness and expert will be carefully examined and reviewed by the KPK’s Public Prosecutor team,” said KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo to journalists in Jakarta on Friday.
According to Budi, every fact presented in court is vital to uncovering the full construction of the case, including the roles of the defendants and other parties related to the matter.
“Because this will reveal the full construction of the case, including explaining the roles of the defendants in the case which, through unlawful acts, resulted in state financial losses,” he said.
The KPK began the investigation into the alleged corruption of the Indonesian Hajj quota for 2023-2024 on 9 August 2025.
As of 30 March 2026, the KPK has named four suspects: former Minister of Religious Affairs Yaqut Cholberqaut, former special staff member Ishfah Abidal Aziz (Gus Alex), Maktour Operational Director Ismail Adham, and former General Chairman of the Indonesian Hajj and Umrah Tour Travel Union, Asrul Aziz Taba.
During the trial in the early hours of Friday (4/9), Gus Alex admitted to being asked to provide 3,000 riyals per person for 24 members of the DPR Commission VIII Working Committee.
However, Gus Alex claimed he was only able to provide 1,500 riyals per person for the 24 legislators. He also admitted that the money had been handed over to them in cash.
According to Gus Alex, the money was allegedly used as ‘souvenirs’ for the legislators during their official working trip to Saudi Arabia.
Furthermore, Gus Alex admitted to meeting three leaders of the DPR Commission VIII for the 2019-2024 period and being asked to collect money from catering service providers. The three leaders of DPR Commission VIII mentioned were Ashabul Kahfi, Marwan Dasopang, and Abdul Wachid.
