Jakarta — The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) examined former Transport Minister Budi Karya Sumadi as a witness in connection with alleged corruption concerning the development and maintenance of railway lines at the Directorate General of Railways (DJKA) within the Transport Ministry on Monday, 9 March 2026.

KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo stated that the examination took place at the BPKP office in Semarang, Central Java.

“Today investigators examined Budi Karya Sumadi, the former Transport Minister who held that position when the matter in question occurred,” Budi said at the Red and White Building in Jakarta on Monday.

Budi stated that during the examination, the KPK investigated Budi Karya’s knowledge regarding the processes and mechanisms for procuring railway line projects at DJKA across West Java, Central Java, East Java, and Sulawesi.

“The KPK’s need to examine witness Budi Karya Sumadi was to clarify the implementation and assignment of work at various locations, given his capacity as Minister at that time,” he explained.

Budi noted that the KPK would also investigate connections between the DJKA case and Commission V of the House of Representatives as a working partner.

“In this matter, investigators have also designated Sudewo (SDW) as a suspect,” he added.

The examination of Budi Karya Sumadi relates to a conviction of Harno Trimadi, former Director of Railway Infrastructure at DJKA. The Corruption Court (Tipikor) at the Central Jakarta District Court sentenced Harno Trimadi, former Director of Railway Infrastructure at the Directorate General of Railways (DJKA) under the Transport Ministry, to 5 years imprisonment.

Both individuals are accused of receiving bribes related to railway development and maintenance projects managed by DJKA under the Transport Ministry during the 2018-2022 fiscal years, totalling 2.625 billion rupiah in instalments.

“The court imposes a prison sentence on defendant 1 Harno Trimadi, therefore with a prison sentence of 5 years,” said Chief Judge Joko Winarno during a hearing at the Jakarta Tipikor Court on Monday, 11 December 2023.

In addition to the prison sentence, the former Director of Railway Infrastructure at DJKA was also fined 200 million rupiah, alternatively facing 4 months imprisonment.
