KPK Examines Cigarette Entrepreneur Liem Eng Hwie as Witness, Probes Cigarette Excise Handling at Customs
Jakarta, Kompas.com - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is delving into the testimony of cigarette entrepreneur Liem Eng Hwie from Central Java regarding the mechanisms for handling cigarette excise at the Directorate General of Customs and Excise (DJBC).
This matter was explored by KPK during the examination of Liem Eng Hwie as a witness in the alleged corruption case of goods importation at DJBC on Tuesday (31/3/2026).
“LEH, who is a cigarette entrepreneur from Central Java. He was questioned by investigators regarding the processes or mechanisms carried out as a cigarette entrepreneur in handling excise at the Directorate General of Customs and Excise,” said KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo in his statement on Wednesday (1/4/2026).
Budi stated that investigators want to delve into the procedures that entrepreneurs must follow in handling cigarette excise at the Directorate General of Customs and Excise.
“Moreover, KPK also wants to promptly hand over this case to the prosecution stage, particularly from the side of the briber or the giver of the bribe. Of course, this is also a strategy due to the limitations of the detention period,” he said.
Previously, the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) summoned cigarette entrepreneurs as witnesses in the alleged corruption case of goods importation at the Directorate General of Customs and Excise (DJBC) on Tuesday (31/3/2026).
Based on information gathered, the three cigarette entrepreneurs summoned by KPK were Liem Eng Hwie, Rokhmawan, and Benny Tan.
In addition, KPK also summoned two other entrepreneurs, Sri Pengestuti and Eka Wahyu Widiyastuti.
Budi said that the examination of these five witnesses would be conducted at the Merah Putih Building in Jakarta.
KPK initially named six suspects in this case: the Director of Enforcement and Investigation of the Directorate General of Customs and Excise (P2 DJBC) for the 2024-2026 period, Rizal;
Head of the Subdirectorate of Intelligence P2 DJBC Sisprian Subiaksono, and Head of Intelligence Section DJBC Orlando Hamonangan on Thursday (5/2/2026).
Most recently, KPK named the Head of the Excise Intelligence Section of Enforcement and Investigation (P2) DJBC, Budiman Bayu Prasojo, as a suspect on Friday (27/2/2026).
